| Like most, if not all, batik enterprises in Indonesia, Batik Danar Hadi can trace its history to a home industry and is a classic success story owed to a mixture of birthright, hard work, foresight, and good fortune. In this, he was following in the footsteps of his father, Haji Bakri, who had been influential in establishing the Sarekat Dagang Islam (Muslim Trading Association) in 1912, together with the legendary nationalist Haji Samanhudi, a neighboring batik entrepreneur in Laweyan. |
